Psychology

What is Psychology?
Psychology is an evidence-based discipline that focuses on understanding thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to support mental health and well-being. Child and adolescent psychologists use therapeutic interventions to help young people manage challenges such as anxiety, emotional regulation, learning difficulties, social relationships, and behavioural concerns. Psychology is beneficial for children who may be experiencing difficulty coping with changes, stressors, or developmental challenges, and it provides them with strategies to build self-awareness, resilience, and emotional strength.
At Mini Minds, our psychologists work closely with children, families, and educators to provide evidence-based assessments, therapy, and counselling. Our approach is neuro affirming, meaning we celebrate neurodiversity and help children develop self-understanding and coping strategies that align with their unique needs. We use a range of therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), play-based interventions, mindfulness-based strategies, and interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma.
We ensure that the interventions and strategies used in psychology sessions are meaningful and relevant to the child and their family. Our psychologists work within the child’s interests, creating therapy approaches that are engaging, functional, and applicable to their everyday life. By fostering a collaborative and practical approach, we ensure that strategies introduced in therapy are realistic and adaptable for implementation at home, in school, and in social settings.
Families can expect a warm, safe, and non-judgmental environment where children feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. Therapy can be provided on a one-to-one basis or involve multiple family members to foster understanding and connection or within a group therapy setting. Our goal is to support children in developing the tools they need to navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience, both in the clinic and in their daily environments.
